PROVO, Utah – BYU introduced the newest members of the BYU football program to Cougar fans on Saturday night. During the halftime of BYU’s basketball game against Saint Mary’s, eight mid-year enrollees were recognized on the Marriott Center court.
The eight newcomers introduced included the two transfer portal additions from earlier in the week in Cal running back Christopher Brooks and Stanford fullback Houston Heimuli.
Oregon transfer offensive lineman probably received the loudest roars from the near-capacity Marriott Center crowd.
Heimuli addressed the BYU fans at center court and said, “Cougar Nation, are you as excited as we for football at LaVell Edwards Stadium coming this fall?!?” The crowd let out some loud cheers after that question.
Heimuli, a former Stanford captain last season for the Cardinal, gave a shout-out to BYU’s student section, The ROC. The newcomers then went towards the ROC and gave them high fives. Next, the student sections held up signs welcoming each of the newcomers to BYU.
The eight newcomers introduced on Saturday night will all participate in spring practices and compete for playing time in the 2022 season.
