LUBBOCK, Texas—
Oklahoma State’s women’s basketball team held on for its first Big 12 win of the season Saturday night, earning a 57-55 win over Texas Tech in front of 4,910 fans inside United Supermarkets Arena.
Defensively, the Cowgirls held the Lady Raiders to a 2-of-11 start from the floor and a 28 percent effort in the quarter. OSU got back-to-back treys in the final minute from Lexy Keys to lead, 16-12, through the first 10 minutes.
The Cowgirls hit three of their first four shots in the second to extend the margin to eight at 25-17. Despite the Lady Raiders shooting 50 percent in the frame, OSU was able to extend its margin heading into the break as Keys drilled her third 3-pointer of the contest as time expired to send the Cowgirls into halftime with a 35-25 lead.
Keys led all scorers in the half with 11 points, while, Lauren Fields also reached double digits with 10. As a team, OSU shot 47 percent in the half.
The Lady Raiders opened the second half with a 5-0 run, forcing a Cowgirl timeout at the 8:20 mark. However, OSU answered with the next five of the game to push the margin back to double figures. The Cowgirls turned it into a 7-0 run to lead by 12 with less than four minutes left in the period.
OSU held a 45-36 lead heading into the final quarter.
Tech once again started strong with the first four points to trim the deficit to five.
With three minutes to go, the Lady Raiders got a free throw to pull within a possession at 50-47. Tech got a bucket on its next possession and OSU took a timeout with two minutes to go in the contest.
A jumper from Fields with 80 seconds left put OSU back in front, 52-49. N’Yah Boyd knocked down a pair of free throws to push the margin back to five with 45 seconds left before Tech got a 3-pointer just seven seconds later.
Keys drilled another 3-pointer with nine seconds left before Tech hit another one with four seconds left to get back within two. The Lady Raiders had one final attempt with less than a second left that missed the mark.
Fields finished with 19 points, while Keys scored 17 in the contest.
