Help Support Meals On Wheels During “March For Meals” – Clackamas County

Milwaukie, OR – The month of March is the Milwaukie Community Center’s annual “March for Meals” fundraising campaign for the Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels, a program where volunteers deliver meals to older adults and people with disabilities, provides more than 60,000 meals annually. Join North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District, which operates the Milwaukie Community Center, in this month-long campaign to ensure that no senior goes hungry. Your donations make a profound difference.

More than 100 volunteer drivers deliver meals to the most vulnerable population in North Clackamas County – the fragile, homebound and elderly. The meals are prepared five days a week from the Milwaukie Center (and service is available seven days a week for nearly 300 residents who rely on daily service). Due to COVID-19, the need for Meals on Wheels is greater than ever with the number of recipients increasing 30% since the start of the pandemic.

Each dollar raised during this campaign supports the daily operations of the Milwaukie Community Center’s Nutrition Program (Meals on Wheels). Each meals costs $6 to produce, $3 of which is reimbursed through federal funds. The annual March for Meals drive is a crucial fundraising tool to support the program’s success.

Local businesses from throughout the area have again signed on to help with the campaign, accepting donations in-store at the register. Bob’s Red Mill has generously offered to match donations up to $10,000. Here is what you can do to support Meals on Wheels.

Donate online at www.ncprd.com/meals-on-wheels or at a partner location:

  • Happy Valley Ace Hardware – 14718 S.E. Sunnyside Rd., Happy Valley, OR
  • Olson Bros. Point S – 14115 S.E. McLoughlin Blvd., Oak Grove, OR
  • Cutting Edge Credit Union – Milwaukie Branch, 4620 S.E. International Way, Milwaukie, OR
  • Milwaukie Liquor Store – 10804 S.E. Oak St., Milwaukie, OR

Become a volunteer! Just as critical as the funding of the program, are the dedicated volunteers that make it possible. New volunteers are always needed and appreciated – whether volunteering daily, weekly or just for special fundraisers and events. Nutrition Program volunteer positions range from delivery drivers to kitchen helpers to dining room servers. For more information on becoming a volunteer, please contact the Meals on Wheels office at 503-794-8035.

North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District is a service district of Clackamas County dedicated to providing exceptional parks and recreation programs, facilities and services. Voters approved the formation of the District in 1990 because they saw the need for greater parks and recreation services in the north end of the county. The District – which serves more than 105,000 residents in a 27-square mile area – includes Milwaukie and a large area of unincorporated Clackamas County. NCPRD’s mission is to enrich community vitality and promote healthy living through parks and recreation.
