A new initiative from Screen Wexford is set to take people into the world of virtual reality, augmented reality and even the Metaverse. Launching in January 2022, Immersive Wexford is a training programme in the field of immersive technologies which will provide practical insights into the new advances helping to revolutionise the entertainment and gaming industries. The course will be open to those who have experience in filmmaking, gaming; architecture; 3D animation, drama; documentary or total beginners who are enthusiastic about any of those mediums.
t will offer an opportunity to upskill in this rapidly evolving field through masterclasses and workshops run by industry leaders and practitioners with online events and in-person immersive labs between January and April 2022. Linda Curtin, Screen Wexford’s Film & Television Co-ordinator and designer of the programme maintains that “the launching of Immersive Wexford is an important step towards positioning the region to take advantage of the new advances in technology in the immersive realm. Screen Wexford’s intention is to provide a gateway to pursue careers in this exciting and fast-paced industry.
“The use of immersive technologies within the entertainment industry is growing at speed. Over the next five years, Meta (formerly Facebook) is planning to create 10,000 jobs in Europe to set up the metaverse. In addition to this, an increasing number of film studios, including here in Ireland, are using Virtual Production to keep up with the demand for content. Screen Wexford has developed this bespoke programme in response to these developments and to take advantage of the range of opportunities opening up across the broader screen industries.”
