SEATTLE — Starting Jan. 1, five King County transfer stations will accept mattresses, box springs and futons for recycling. The stations are at Bow Lake, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline and Vashon.
The move is expected to reduce the amount of recyclable materials — metal, wood, foam and cotton — that end up at the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill from the 375,000 mattresses, box springs and futons that are disposed of each year.
