The Xbox Game Pass is expanding in major ways during 2022, starting with brand new day one releases.

As confirmed earlier this week by Ubisoft, Rainbow Six Extraction will be available to download on Xbox One and Xbox Series X via Xbox Game Pass.

Day One releases for the Xbox Game Pass are not rare and usually include all of Microsoft’s first-party exclusives.

But this time around, Ubisoft is teaming up with Microsoft to launch the new Rainbow Six experience in a very accessible way.

As the official announcement confirms, “When it releases on January 20, 2022, Xbox Game Pass members can jump into this intense, thrilling, and unpredictable PvE co-op experience alone or in squads of up to three players to take on dynamic incursions.

“Rainbow Six Extraction is a tactical co-op FPS that brings a whole new squad-based PvE experience to the millions of players in the Rainbow Six universe and beyond.

“That’s not all though – Rainbow Six fans on PC will be happy to hear that Rainbow Six Siege will also be available with PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate starting January 20 as well.

“With Rainbow Six Siege available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members on console and cloud already, fans have the opportunity to brush up on their tactical shooter skills while awaiting the release of Rainbow Six Extraction. And players who play both Siege and Extraction can unlock the epic gear included in the United Front Bundle.”

So not only is a new Rainbow Six game coming to Xbox Game Pass later this month, but Ubisoft is also expanding the original Siege experience to the PC Game Pass.

When you consider how popular the franchise has proven in the past and continues to be across PC and consoles, it shows a commitment by Microsoft to keep the pressure up on Sony.

And for good reason too, as the PlayStation 5 maker is also planning some serious upgrades to its own platform.

With rumours suggesting that a new PS Plus hybrid subscription is going to combine with PlayStation Now, Sony is also working on the PlayStation VR2.

Set to be more powerful and accessible than the first headset, the new virtual reality experience will build on an already exclusive PlayStation experience.

The PSVR is known to be one of the best and most affordable headsets on the market, and its successor is only expected to grow the platform further.

And with no such feature available on Xbox, the PS5 is about to get a massive exclusive upgrade within the next year or so.

So with Microsoft starting the year with a bang and providing new games for Xbox Game Pass so quickly, can it hope to compete against something as exciting as VR?

The Xbox Game Pass has quickly become a popular service that continues to excite fans and there is no doubt that adding more big games to it will only increase fan affection for it.

It seems likely that both Xbox’s Game Pass and Sony’s new VR experience will help grow the console market over the coming years by creating and building video game experiences that are hard to beat.
